21st International Conference of MEEA
Istanbul, November 29-30, 2025
We are pleased to invite you to submit your abstracts/papers for presentation at the 21st International Conference of MEEA, organized and hosted by Marmara University, Istanbul, Türkiye, on November 29–30, 2025. The conference will focus on various fields of economic research related to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). This year's theme is:
“Transforming Economies: Energy Transition, Geopolitics in International Finance, and Sustainable Growth in the MENA Region.”
The conference will be held primarily in person; however, an online option will be available, with priority given to international participants. The sessions will include a mix of regular and invited sessions.
The global economy is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, driven by the rise of energy transition and shifting geopolitical dynamics. These profound changes are reshaping the landscape of international finance. The MENA region plays a crucial role in this transition, given its dominant position in global energy markets, its geopolitical significance, and its ongoing economic diversification efforts. As the region strives for sustainable growth, it must navigate challenges such as climate change, water scarcity, and social inequalities. Given the complexities of global economic and political shifts, understanding the interconnectedness of these issues has never been more important.
This year’s conference aims to bring together scholars and experts to explore how the MENA region can adapt to and benefit from these global transformations. Sessions will cover topics such as the economic implications of the energy transition, the role of geopolitics in shaping financial markets, and the pursuit of sustainable growth in the region.
Additionally, a broad range of key economic issues relevant to the MENA region will be discussed. The meeting will have the following sub themes:

The 21st International Conference of MEEA, hosted by Marmara University, seeks to foster meaningful dialogue and exchange of ideas that will contribute to understanding and shaping the economic future of the MENA region.

Submission Guidelines
- Submission deadline: May 5, 2025. Abstracts should be submitted to meea2025@marmara.edu.tr
- To submit an abstract, you must renew your MEEA membership for 2025 via the MEEA portal.
- Abstracts should clearly outline the paper’s objectives, data, methodology, and main findings.
- Each submission must include JEL classification codes and up to three keywords.
- Authors will be notified of acceptance by June 23, 2025.
- General registration fee: $50. Student registration fee: $10 (to encourage participation from young researchers).
- Registration fee covers two lunches and coffee breaks, full access to the keynote panels and conference sessions.
