This year’s conference revolves around the theme “Transforming Economies: Energy Transition, Geopolitics in International Finance, and Sustainable Growth in the MENA Region”, focusing on critical issues such as the global energy transition, financial markets, and sustainable growth. One of the key areas to be explored is the impact of economic transformation on regional economies and the dynamics of regional development.
This special session aims to bring together academics and graduate students to discuss regional economic disparities from a historical perspective. The main objective of the session to examine the historical roots of regional disparities by examining key issues such as methods to historically measure regional GDP, connection between regional prosperity and long-lasting human capital inequalities, place of geography and historical evolution of market accessibility. Outcome of the session is expected to underline the importance of rising interest on economic history of regions and how it shapes our understanding on spatial disparities.
